How to Develop a Made Up Mind

by Dr. Patrick MacNamara on April 30, 2008

Do you have a Made Up Mind? Do you even know what a Made Up Mind is?

First of all, a good friend and personal mentor of mine once stated that it is the most powerful factor that we have in life. Its underlying concept can be taken from Nike’s slogan of “Just Do It!” It is the difference between success and mediocrity.

If it’s that valuable, don’t you think it is worth learning on how to develop it? If so, then read on…

How do you achieve a Made Up Mind?

1. Persistence — Success requires dedication over the long haul.

2. Commitment — Commitment spelled backwards equals sacrifice. Commitment allows no excuses.

3. Desire – You need to know what you want out of life. Your only limitation is yourself.

4. Concepts — Work on expanding your concepts. Your current concepts are based upon your past experiences. Once they’re expanded, they can’t go back to their original size.

A Made Up Mind starts with your attitude. It starts with your willingness to go out of your comfort zone. Whatever your mind can conceive and believe, your mind can achieve. (Napolean Hill) Develop the complete belief that you can do anything you set out to do.

Next, identify a Chief Aim. Ask yourself, “What do I want to become? What is my focus?”

Create specific Goals. Remember, a goal without a deadline is a wish. Set deadlines.

Nurture your Made Up Mind by reading inspirational and positive material, rising early with quiet time, establishing mentors and speaking out loud what you expect from life.

As you stay committed to this outline, your self-confidence will increase which will add fuel to the fire of enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is important because it helps drive your passion.

The essence of a Made Up Mind can be summarized as follows:

Protect your thoughts…for they will become your words.

Protect your words… for they will become your actions.

Watch your actions…for they will become your habits.

Watch your habits…for they will make your character.

Watch your character…for it determines your destiny.
